Each letter grade has a number value:

  • A = 4.0

  • C = 2.0
  • D = 1.0
  • F = 0.0

The calculator takes all your course grades, finds the average, and gives you your GPA.

GPA Formula for Jr High School

To figure out your GPA, we use a basic formula. Each letter grade is worth a number, called a grade point:

  • A = 4.0
  • B = 3.0
  • C = 2.0
  • D = 1.0
  • F = 0.0

Here’s the formula:

GPA = Total Grade Points ÷ Number of Classes

Example:

Let’s say you have these grades:

  • Math – A (4 points)
  • Science – B (3 points)
  • English – A (4 points)
  • History – C (2 points)

Add the grade points: 4 + 3 + 4 + 2 = 13

Divide by the number of classes: 13 ÷ 4 = 3.25 GPA

This is how the calculator works behind the scenes. It adds up your grade points and finds the average. That number is your GPA.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does junior high school GPA count for college applications?

No, colleges do not look at your junior high GPA when you apply. They only look at your high school grades, starting from 9th grade. However, doing well in junior high helps you build good habits for high school.

Do electives like PE, Art, or Music count toward junior high school GPA?

Yes, they do. As long as the elective gives a letter grade (like A, B, C), it gets included in your GPA. Every graded class counts the same in the average.

How is junior high school GPA different from high school GPA?

The main difference is that junior high GPA isn’t used for college or official transcripts. High school GPA is recorded on your transcript and affects college admissions and scholarships. Also, some high schools use weighted GPAs for harder classes. Junior high usually does not.

Can junior high school GPA be weighted?

Most of the time, no. Junior high GPA is usually unweighted, meaning all classes are worth the same. Advanced or honors classes in junior high rarely boost your GPA like they might in high school.

Can junior high school grades count as high school credit?

Sometimes. If you're in an advanced class, like Algebra 1 or a foreign language, your school might count it for high school credit. But it depends on your school district. Ask your counselor to be sure.
